I recently learned of a technique to manage stress.

The practice is called “Zendoodle” and I found it to be very relaxing.

So I decided I would share it with you.

That drawing above is one that I did. It isn’t finished, but it gives you an idea of what I’m talking about.

It is basically a drawing technique that has multiple steps comprised of patterns the artist decides on.

It causes the artist to focus and positively affects their mood and stress levels.

There are other benefits regarding mental health which are outlined in the studies below.

Here is a study regarding the health benefits of zendoodling.

And here.

The instructor recommended doing this activity instead of watching TV at night.

It can relax the mind and coupling the activity with calming music can really get yourself ready for a good night’s sleep.

All you really need for this activity is a piece of paper with well defined boarders and a writing utensil. Anything will do. You don’t need to go to an art supply store and buy a bunch of items, but you can if you find you really like this activity.

Below is an example of a Zendoodle I did using only a fine black marker. This gives you an idea that you don’t need to be all “fancy” with multiple colors and drawing tools.

I’m not going to leave you hanging. The instructor, Chris, who showed me this created a YouTube video on how to do these drawings.

Sit down with a writing utensil and a piece of paper and give this a watch/try!

You’ll find the repetitive patterns really calm the mind. It’s actually a lot of fun!

Share this with those of all ages and if you end up drawing something, send it my way. I’d love to see it!

Enjoy.
