I have to admit.

This email was incredibly difficult to source proper information.

There is so much conflicting stuff out there regarding sunscreen!

I almost gave up, but I didn’t think that’d be fair to you.

I dug and dug and this is what I found…

There are chemical and physical forms of sunscreen.

Physical sunscreen reflects UV rays with its active ingredients. Chemical sunscreen absorbs UV rays rather than your skin.

Chemical:

The organic population argues that the chemical active ingredients either destroy aquatic life or cause harm to humans in the form of hormone disruption, damage to organs, allergies, and causing toxicity throughout the body.

The mainstream population argues that pretty much all the chemical active ingredients are basically fine and that we should trust that the FDA knows what its doing and wants nothing but the best for us.

I think you can tell I’m a bit unsure about that.😀

Physical:

The organic community did not bash physical sunscreen ingredients aside from using spray versions. They stated the spray versions could be inhaled by the lungs and cause damage. Sounds reasonable.

The mainstream community however had nothing negative to say about physical sunscreen. They only bashed the organic community saying that chemical sunscreen was safe.

For this reason, I am opting for physical sunscreen and passing on the chemical forms.

The physical sunscreens will have either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Neither of these will be absorbed into your blood.

A minor drawback to physical sunscreen is that it can cause your skin to look, well, a little different! My wife laughed pretty hard when I put on this type of sunscreen. “You look all shiny, white, and purple!”

Rather than changing your skin tone (although isn’t that the whole point of sunbathing?😂) there is a solution that Sue found!

Badger Sunscreen products use uncoated zinc oxide as their active ingredient. That means it goes on clear, protects you from the sun, and doesn’t get absorbed into your bloodstream.  You can click here to see it.

I’m sure there are other options out there, but Badger is going to be my go-to product this season.

Stay well!
