You may have never heard of endorphins before. Perhaps you have, but you are unsure exactly what they are and what they do.

A brief look into endorphins reveals a lot of cool info – enough to say ok this is awesome what can I do to increase my endorphins?!

Let’s first look at what endorphins can do for you:

  1. Pain Relief
  2. Reduction of Stress and Anxiety
  3. Reduction of Depression
  4. Regulation of Appetite
  5. Increased Sense of Well-Being

Conversely, people who have low levels of endorphins will experience the opposite results to the list above. In addition they may also have:

  1. Sleep Issues
  2. Increased Risk for Addiction
  3. Increased Impulsive Behavior

Now it’s pretty safe to say that you are now likely interested in increasing endorphins in your body. The best way to do this is – Exercise!

There are a ton of benefits to exercise and most of the “well-being benefits” are a result of increasing endorphin levels in the body. So to be more specific, endorphins are a big reason why exercise is so beneficial.

I’ve talked about exercise before and made it very clear: Exercise does not have to be something you dread doing. Don’t like the gym? Don’t go! Don’t want to run? Don’t! Don’t want to lift weights? Forget about ‘em! I can go on for days.

Choose any form of exercise that you see yourself enjoying. Walking, hiking, biking, pickleball, body weight training…the list is endless. If you enjoy doing the activity, you’ll be more likely to stick to it. Not to mention, why bother torturing yourself with an exercise you hate? Make it fun!

There are also other ways to increase endorphins besides exercising. They include:

  1. Mediation
  2. Laughing
  3. Volunteering
  4. Expression of Self Through Forms of Art
  5. Acupuncture
  6. Massage

Now before you get excited about just getting more massages and laughing a bit more in lieu of exercising, let me make it clear. Exercise is the best way to increase endorphins in your body.

Give it a shot. Once you’ve built momentum it’ll be hard to stop you. Before you know it, you’ll be “a regular” and you’ll be floating due to the amount of endorphins you’ve generated.

Enjoy it! You earned it.
