I cannot take the credit for the following information.

I read this online and I thought it was a brilliant perspective. (Just be warned for language.)

Regarding making positive changes to your health: Stop Subtracting.

We’ve all done it:

Cutting out unhealthy foods

Eating less

Removing unhealthy beverages

Consider this: Try Adding.

Add whole foods

Add exercise – particularly strength training burns more calories and attains a desirable physique faster than cardio alone

Add protein

Add mindfulness – think before you eat. Think about how you view yourself. Pay attention to how your body and mind feel. Maintain a positive attitude toward your goal and envision your goal as if it already happened.

The effects of doing this are tremendous.

You may still be eating unhealthy foods and/or beverages, but with the addition of healthier foods, you will have less room for unhealthy options. Protein provides more satiation (feeling of fullness) than carbohydrates or fats. Hey, there’s only so much room in your stomach!

As you continue you will notice the healthier “additions” to your lifestyle make you feel better. With proper mindfulness, this will translate to positive reinforcement and will soon lead to behavioral changes that remain.

If you’re having a bad day, you will realize that after a run, meditation, or a healthy snack you’ll get the boost you needed. It’s certainly a better coping mechanism than diving into a bag of fast food. We’ve all been there and doing that doesn’t make us feel better.

Replacing the new foods, drinks, and exercise with the junk food/drinks and sedentary lifestyle will come more naturally through this process.

Good diet and good exercise is invigorating. That alone can reduce cravings for poor health decisions.

At one point you’ll go to the grocery store and realize you don’t even think about going to the junk food aisle anymore. You’ll be heading straight for the new items you’ve added into your lifestyle.

This is a very powerful technique. We all only have so much room in our bellies and time in our day.

Try adding.

Forget subtracting.
