Sometimes less is more.
Often times when this is true, less will actually get you more.
The subject in question here is regarding your cell phone.
Cell phones are very useful but only to a certain degree.
They are distracting.
They take away from your ability to remain present in the moment.
They can be a burden.
They can actually cause addiction. So much so there’s actual rehabilitation centers to treat people for cell phone addiction.
This study here looks at cell phone addiction and the impact on physical and mental health.*
Knowledge is empowering. There is a possibility you never looked at your cell phone as something you could be addicted to.
Cell phones are now equipped with various features to help combat addiction and on a lesser degree, they give the user insight into their habits and usage.
On Android phones, go to settings. Click on “Digital Wellbeing & parental controls”.
This will reveal your screen time, which apps you use and for how long, and you can even tweak settings to limit the time you spend on certain apps. Additionally you can use “Focus mode” and turn off notifications from distracting apps for a desired amount of time.
On iPhones, go to settings. Click on “Screen Time”.
Similarly on Android phones, you can limit time spent on apps. The iPhone equivalent to “Focus mode” is “Downtime”.
Less is more.
The less time you go on your phone…
The more time you’ll have to create memories with those you love.
The more time you’ll have to get other stuff done around the house.
The more time you can spend reading and learning.
The more time you can do something good for your health.
Time is the only resource we have that we cannot create more of.
That is priceless.
